I have bloggers block. It doesn't help that I'm not feelin the best. At least I got my voice back. Thank you Darren for your concern. The rest of you commenters can just go jump in a cold cold lake. :-) and sit there for awhile!

Bloggers block? I've heard that more roughage in your diet should help that. If not there are over the counter products that you could try.

Here's a question for you to consider while you're blocked...

How many people have ever died? In the whole world. Since The Beginning.

Ha! All them until now (being the present). :-P ptttttthhhhhhbbbbbbbb. Nice try lol.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think it will help the key board any, just makes things messy I would say.

I _was_ actually looking for an estimate, a real integer number.

I worked it out a year ago -- took me about 20 minutes to create an estimate that I could backup with some real world stats.

So, I'll propose the challenge again - give me an estimatated count of how many people have ever lived on planet earth.

Hmmm some people have just too much time on their hands... :))

Here's an enigma for you:

Story: An Arab sheikh tells his two sons to race their camels to a distant city to see who will inherit his fortune. The one whose camel is slower will win. The brothers, after wandering aimlessly for days, ask a wise man for advise. After hearing the advice they jump on the camels and race as fast as they can to the city.

Question: What does the wise man say?

He told the younger to steal the older's camel!

Here's one for you:
Assume that Chicken McNuggets come in 3 sizes. You can order 6, 9, or 20 at a time. What is the largest number of chicken nuggets which you can not order?

Hey - you're bloggers block is turning out to be fun! Still waiting for the number of people ever to live on earth.

lol, well I would say to Sylvies question that he either told them to tie or he said that it's not who get's there last, it's the one whose camal is the most tired and therefore the slowest upon inspection.

How could stealing the other's camel be the answer since both jumped on their camals... oh wait, they jumped on the other's camel to race it to the city thus leaving their camel to be the last if ever to arive. Ahhhh, very clever.

Well, in answer to your origional question, I would say an answer is impossible. No one really knows how old the earth is, and using the generations given in the Bible is not accurate either.

In the genealogies of the Bible, generations are most likely skipped, thus so and so begot so and so who is actually his great great grandson. It's believed that only the most prominent persons are recorded in the genealogies.

Thus, the world may indeed be much older than 7,000 years according to the Bible. Now, some would say that there are no gaps in the genealogies and that the earth is just that, around 7,000 years old. I think that's the number that they arive at.

So, to caculate how many peopl have died is anyone's best guess. Though developing a diminishing equation would be rather entertaining. Each generation would be smaller than the previous, assuming that their were no major population decreases except for the Great Flood. Hmmmm, first I would have to find out how many people there are alive today. To much work for me I think. So what did you come up with?

If the younger brother steals his older brothers camel and gets there first, he wins the inheritance.

How Many People Have Ever Lived On Earth?

Year Population Births per 1,000 Births Between Benchmarks
8,000 B.C. 2 - -
2000 B.C. 5,000,000 80 1,137,789,769
1 A.D. 300,000,000 80 46,025,332,354
1200 450,000,000 60 26,591,343,000
1650 500,000,000 60 12,782,002,453
1750 795,000,000 50 3,171,931,513
1850 1,265,000,000 40 4,046,240,009
1900 1,656,000,000 40 2,900,237,856
1950 2,516,000,000 31-38 3,390,198,215
1995 5,760,000,000 31 5,427,305,000
2002 6,215,000,000 23 983,987,500

Number who have ever been born: 106,456,367,669
World population in mid-2002: 6,215,000,000
Percent of those ever born who are living in 2002: 5.8

Source: Population Reference Bureau estimates.

So, about 100,000,000,000 people have ever died (give or take a few)

You'll need to cut and paste the table to make it look nice again.

So, there _is_ a defensable answer to the question.

Hey Ken and Darren,

Here's a website for ya... Think you'll enjoy it :))

lol, yes, but your "definate" answer is based on assumptions and therefore is obviously anything but.

It is fairly fascinating though to think about that many people having come and gone. that's a stinken lot of people.

I started thinking about how many people have gone to heaven or hell, and it makes me sick to my stomach. Litterly. What a horrible horrible thing. Immagine what God must feel. No wonder He gave us Jesus. That's an aweful lot of people.
